Hey all,
I found this 66 bug in a salvage yard here in Powell River, got it for $500

Since these pics of put all the glass in, and am prepping the fenders, hood, and decklid for paint. Since the car was pretty much stripped when I got it (as represented in the pics), I am on somewhat of a budget finishing it, its going to have the hood and W decklid from a 57. Fenders, hood, decklid all are going to be flat black (I won't be able to match the paint, so I figure flat black will work). Came with a strong running 1600dp installed and a spare transmission, the one it whines a little. Floors were apparently redone at some point, as was the headliner, they are in perfect shape. Only problems are passenger side running board panel is rusted through, rest of heater channels are perfect though. I'll post up some pics of its progress as it...uhm... progresses.

There still is one yard like tat, it's called uncle lesters and they specialize in baywindows!

Yeah the whole pan, half the package tray, inside the doors, and behind the rear panels is all covered in Dynamat. It has new window cranks and door handles, as well as window scrapers, headliner, and trunk/decklid seals. I really think that somebody went "all out" restoring this car no more than say 5 or 6 years ago, then for whatever reason stripped it and threw it out (I know, I thought "STOLEN!" at first, still waiting for my letter from ICBC about previous owner, if anybody has gone through the "Lost vehicle registration" thing before and has any advice, let me know!!!)
I would totally be interested in a 66 decklid, as a friend of mine needs a W lid for his 57 and I feel like a jerk putting it on mine.

Well I finally got around to doing some work on it in the last few days, been very busy with school.
Put in a new clutch, tranny still whines a bit so I'm going to try the Moly grease trick and ride it till it dies.
Got the motor back in and all was going well until I went out to my dads place and he wanted to try my battery in an old truck, he very nicely put my battery back in and connected it backwards

Fried out the alternator, luckily I'm working at a Starter/Alternator repair shop for my Practicum!
Gave me a good excuse to paint the engine compartment while the fan shroud was out, and put in new Pertronix distributor and carb. Got my fenders and hood all back on, and did the "front" electrical (turn signals, headlights). NOT fun on a '66, amazing the differences between this and my '65.

That car looks incredibly similar to the '66 I had that was sold to Kool-Aid Man (and subsequently resold recently) ... especially with all the Dynamat in it ...

Im already on the last stage of the "No registration" ICBC thing, waiting for the registered letter to come back. Ive got the name of the last registered owner, trying to confirm it with any of the previous owners.

Hey ya, that's totally my old car, crazy I sold it in December to a guy, I don't remember his name, but they did put the car in his wifes name i do recall. I find it bizare it ended up in a junkyard, Makes me worry about what happened with the previous owner. He was so stoked when he bought the car off me. Would it help you if i got you the registration number? cause i may have a copy of it. Also I will see if I can find old emails with the guys number and email address. This is just crazy man! haha

I wonder if the spare transmission it came with was the one you gave him with it? It was sitting on the passenger side floor when I got it, looks like its painted black, do you know if it was any good?
I dont know what the transmission in the car was like when you guys were driving it, but it howls VERY loudly now and if you try to go into 2nd from any speed over 15mph, grind city.

My dumb-ass brother did the same thing to my 74 Super, he hooked it up and walked away!

a few minutes later I see a HUGE plume of smoke coming out of the rear vents. I think I said something like : " #$%^ !!!!!!!!!! ". that was the end of that car.

Well it's all together now, only things left are to change the transmission one day, and put on the decklid when it arrives. In retrospect I wish I'd gone with regular bumpers instead of T-Bars, but the cost of some good straight German bumpers was just not in the cards, and I've seen what happens to the cheap ones after 2 months in Powell River ocean breeze.

Might still be in kool-aid mans name, try getting papers and getting kool aid to sign em (if he does not mind)

Already checked out the names, it was formerly registered to a woman named Shelly. Nobody, including Kool Aid Man, recognizes the name.

Got my registered letter back unclaimed today, car is now officially in my name and insured. Took it for a drive on the highway, drives really nice other than the LOUD transmission. Pulled it out today and am swapping in the spare that it came with. Kool-Aid Man, I REALLY hope its the same spare you gave them and its good!
