Title: Front disc weird problem.
Post by: J A Red on May 01, 2017, 11:10:11 PM
I've converted my 56 bug over to front disc brakes. Been having a strange problem. After getting the lines bled I'll take the car for a spin. While at full steering lock (either direction) I loose all brake pedal pressure and have no brakes. Once the steering has straightened up I can get the brakes back by pumping the pedal. its Empi's front disc conversion kit w/ drop spindles, brake hoses aren't getting pinched or stretched that I can tell. Thinking of switching out the rubber hoses for braided to see if that helps. Any thoughts?

Some sort of slop in the wheel bearings pushing the pads back when in a turn?, go drive around in a circle somewhere safe and see if the reservoir level rises.

Do you have a single or double cct master cylinder?

Bruce, I have a new dual master. The one that is recommended for this application.

get the car on jack stands with the wheels off. have a pal on the pedal.spin the rotor by hand whilst holding pressure on the pedal and steering lock to lock.  some times a visual with help to locate the problem. i use a rounded jaw clamp tool to pinch off the hoses to isolate brake hydraulics. you can clamp off the rears to isolate the fronts to further narrow down the issue.
