not really sure what you call it but it is when you are able to adjust the amount of presure going to the front or the rear brakes.
just wanted to know if this is mandatory to install when using a disc brake set-up eaither from socal or cb performance

proportioning valve (sp) Is what you are thinking of and they are not needed when you are using front and rear discs.
You can instal one if you are using brakes with a much greater volume from front to rear but the kits available today work without one.
