I have a question about the subaru engines. I've heard they could be put in beetles so i did a little research and found this site with a decent engine. http://www.garysvw.com/turbo-buggy-engine.htm
It starts out at 200 hp and you can upgrade it to 300 for more money...

My question:
What do you think would be a good engine to put into a beetle (i got a 74 regular) that would accelerate nicely etc... i've seen the website and a lot of you have very fast beetles so maybe some of you have different engines in there? Or did you somehow turbo charge a 60hp engine to do wheelies and the 1/4 in 13 seconds

? If so how much did that cost?? I also thought a subaru would be nice because then i could eventually maybe add an ac to the car as well which would be nice down here... i'm sure that wouldnt add so much weight to make a huge difference either.

couple things to remeber
1) subaru engines are wider
2) they arent a direct bolt in (cutting required as far as i know)
3) they are watercooled (have to find a place to mount the radiator, and run lines.
4) they are watercooled
5) they use water instead of air

it would be cool to see a subaru engine in a bug, but for the time money and trouble why not build a performance vw engine, thats bolt in

Yeah, the website i found the engine on though is modified to fit in the beetles already. What's big deal of water cooled :lol: ? Yea the radiator would end up having to be placed in the front of the car and run it to the back 8(.

What you mean by performance volkswagon engine? how much would one cost about? And is it possible to add an ac if you have one of those?

Not sure if this fits the look you are going for, but here is a Subaru powered VW

The rad is located on the underside of the wing with a couple of electric fans.
