Title: Center caps for Fuchs
Post by: donagh on July 14, 2014, 10:58:13 AM
Anyone have any experience with placing centre caps on Fucks.  I'm stuck due to the dust caps.  I have made one work with some massaging with a hammer but can't make the other work with the speedo cable in it.  I have used spacers but I'm can't put any more on due to wheel well space.  This is on a 61 bus with a stock beam on adjusters with a arkewlds disk brake conversion.

Insanely frustrating, any ideas???

Thanks,
Don

I ground off the end of my speedo cable. Fits nice now.

The issue is the dust cap, if I take the duct cap off it works but then no speedo.  I need to either get someone to cut out a cm or so and weld up or come up with another creative plan.  Seems like this should be a common issue with so many aftermarket wheels on vw's??

I chucked my dust cap in the lathe, and just cut however much I needed off the bottom. Yes, you lose the lip normally used to remove the cap...but a set of channel locks held onto the dust cap lightly, and a tap from a hammer, always popped it right off.

Just checked...no photos.

Thank you Dave, this makes sense.  Now anyone in Vancouver have a lathe I cut utilze?  or advice on where I could get this done?  Beer or cash??

Cheers,

I've used these guys before, West 3rd and Manitoba in Vancouver. Make sure you explain what you want, and get a price on what it's going to cost. I've not had a problem, but once got a reason why they should have charged more.... they didn't as the price was on the work order.
