Track width max.
« on: August 13, 2015, 11:38:40 AM »
Can anyone tell me the real max track width from tire outer edge to outer edge that one can fit under the stock fenders. I can only find the body width of 60.6" stock I have a real world width right now of 62.5" I'm guessing that a flared fender that's 1.5" wider will solve my problem. But the pan doesn't have the full weight on it yet no body or engine etc. so that can still change. Anyone have real body measurements to compare to the wiki measurements?

Thanks Rene

I have the widest width stock wheels that were put on a beetle (at least in North America).  5.5J x 15, ET26.  I run 195/65R15 Conti's.  Max tire width at the ground is 61.25" not including any tire side wall bulge.  There is a slight negative camber (stock) so the tires have maybe .5" clearance at the inner fender upper edge.  Never had a clearance issue. Approx. 60.6" outer fender side to side at the top.

With a rolled inner fender edge and slightly more negative camber you may be able to clear.  FYI.

Thanks Pittwagen,

In that case I think I'll be good with the 1.5" flared fenders. As on the front we have 61.5" track width. But we need to add a spacer there anyways to add some clearance between the shocks and the tires. And on the rear we have 62.5" which isn't to bad when the fender with with flares would be 63.5 and weight is still going to be added.

Cheers Rene
