Go wandering up to the top end of the track next time you are there.  Note there are actually 3 lines to cross.  The first finish line is the first MPH light.  The second one is the actual quarter mile finish line, used to determine your ET.  Then the last line is the second MPH line.  Your final speed is determined by how long it takes for you to pass between the first MPH line and the second MPH line.
What probably happened was a leaf or bit of debris fell across the second MPH beam just after you crossed the first MPH line.  It could have been blown there by the other car in the other lane, or just wind.  It could also have been pushed there by the air piling up in front of your car.
What you do at the start line will not affect your MPH at all.  If you let the clutch out just a bit to start the timer, then stop for a coffee break, then go again, your MPH will still be 81mph.

That makes sense.  It's pretty windy out at our track, and the conditons aren't that great (its in an industrial area, and there is a lot of debris)

I guess I'll have to keep working at it...

Rules? What there are Rules?
Sorry the DGLVK must have missed out on the How a VW Club Should Act training session. I hear there is another Snubbing 101 class coming up....hhhmmm maybe we can sign up for that one.
Oh wait, I know perhaps someone would like to volunteer to mentor us on how to act reputable.

Man if this sorta thing/snubbing  happended on the clf or shoptalk or even the samba forum serious hardcore enthusiast would  suspect the club that has 2 checkered flags as their "emblem" to be "INTERESTING" to say the least. Is this what reputable clubs do?? snub like little boys and girls. Little snubbing yes but within reason.

Allan,
If you actually read all the posts between Bruce and I and or me and anyone... you would soon learn allot about \"Shane\" the person. First off I was teasing you. Sorry if you can't take it... As for Club snubbing...where was I snubbing the DVKK? Are you in DVKK? BUt lets talk about \"Jim's \" car, You know what , Jim built an amazing car I agree. no where have I said any different. Even at the Race someone comes up to me about the car... I point Jim out and say \" He is the builder\" I am only the driver. I would like to know where it was a proven 10sec car? cuz i dont think the car did 10 before I got it. We all know who built it. so you are beating a dead horse there. and why would I paint a car so it is not labelled the \"DVKK\" car. I could not have built that car for what I paid for it.. and if anyone wants to call it the \"DVKK car well go ahead.. Does not bother me. I am DGLVK and very proud of that. I did not buy the car to be in the DVKK.

Just for your \"JIM\" car statement...
Rob, Gavin,Geoff,Brad, BradL, Jim,Scott, Lanny  and ofcourse Darren all had their engines built by Darren... So does your theory still stand???Everyone is racing Darrens ???

BTW I am not on the STF nor am I on Samba...
I am on the Airspeed forums....

k..... no where did I mention you snubbing DVKK. I'm cool dude, words may be interpreted in many ways on a forum when not spoken to in person. I was actually getting a giggle reading this shiat but initially I dont take snubs well since I \"normally\" dont give 'em. Call it snubbing or ribbing this is a common occurence I see here all the time, every time and majority of the time. NO ONE can dispute that.  Didn't expect to see my name mentioned as a scared little girl [_[ .  Normally I dont give a shiat what people say to me but I guess I have not taken it in stride earlier today.

I woulda loved to buy a complete car like Jim's if I never started on my 65 project car.  Leave it at that.

Snub ....(which you will ever seldom see from me)

from the biggest \"mentor\" girl of them all.

I'd just like to add some fuel to the fire, as things are getting a little quiet around here  :o

How is it that a DVKK car is so prominently displayed as the very first car on the DGLVK web site photo gallery?

http://www.dglvk.com/Quickstart/ImageLib/T...urbo_engine.jpg

They may have fast cars, but their web site seems to be a 'little' dated & sparse.
I guess they have their priorities straight \"All Go & No Show\" for their cars and website.      :D   :P

Hey! Prairie dogs are a valid theory! Just like leaves and other debris blowing through the timing lights.
How do you know a prairie dog didn't get blown through the lights? It might have been really windy!

I'm all for the tailwind and prairie dog/leaves theory.  Once again, there is nothing on the website about prairie dogs/leaves and tailwinds voiding the 100 mph club.

I think the bigger mystery here is why you BC boys can't all play nicely in the sandbox.  I only wanted to know if I got a sticker...not to be involved in your turf war...does the phrase innocent bystander mean anything to you guys?

Anything at all?

Bueller?

Make luv with the dubs...
