I went to our local track last night, Race City, here in Calgary.  My first race was against a late 90's Civic.  We lined up, I trashed him down the track, not paying any attention to the towers at the end.  As I picked up my slip, my jaw dropped...

This will sound so odd...try to contain your laughter...(I couldn't)

16.1@111 mph.

It seemed really odd to me.  The Honda's speed didn't register, but he lost all the same...a few races later, they shortened down the track to the 1/8th mile, as they were having issues with the timimg lights...

So do I still get a sticker?

good job.

it does sound fishy, tho. with a 111mph trap speed shouldnt your 1/4 mile time be a little quicker than 16.1??

what size motor are you running?

awesome stuff regardless. fun times at the track.

Yeah, something doesn't seem right there. I'm sure you will get there soon enough Freddy (before me it looks like :D ). Have you got the throttle to work properly yet? You should be running into the 14's no problem with that engine.

As far as I'm concerned...the time slips don't lie (ya rite)

It did meet the criteria on the dvkk web site...there's nothing there about issues with the track itself!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Trev...linkage problem isn't solved yet, but it's closer now than it was before.  Only 4 full 1/4 races, and I've already shaved 1 second off my time....I also ran a .010 RT light last night in the 1/8th mile...there was no problem with the lights then...

Did I mention I broke the 100 mph barrier on 165's?

Do I get a sticker?  Please?

You will have to email a copy of your slip to Geoff and he is the decision maker of who gets a sticker. I was close this year too 13.60 @ 99.40 mph and that was with a broken manifold and the other one loosening off, damn LOcktite

111 mph? Your car should be running high 11's to really low 12's ET for that kind of mph.
I don't think you're going to run high 11's to low 12's on 165 tires.
What did your car run at Mission Raceway, when you had it there?

I'm driving a 1970 apple green beetle.  I only had 3 runs at Mission.  I missed the first one as I was in tech.

Best was a 16.1@81 mph.  I was only getting 1/2 throttle at the time.  That problem was corrected when I got back home.

BTW , reaction time's will not affect  ET's .  you could sit at the line all day. The ET timer wont start untill you move.

If you have a reaction time, doesn't that mean you have moved?  How else would you get that measurement?

You won't get a reaction time until you move.  RT is the time from when the green comes on to the time you move.

So Shane, which is it?

RT is the the amount of time it takes you to get moving!

So RT will not affect ET as ET starts at the same point the RT ends and is calculated.

So RT + ET would be the total time from the green light until you reach the end of the track.

I think thats it.

Here I am on a sunday afternoon browsing in the Airspeed forum and I see my name. Wow I'm a girl...LOL. Lets see... the topic is 100mph club and I get called a girl. I love this soap opera forum  :D

Hmmm I have no cage and I got in the 11's on a naturally aspirated pumpgas engine that I drive almost every day except when it rains. NHRA rules requires any car in the 11's to have a rollcage which I do not have in my 65.  Do I \"detune\" or retain low 12's and have the freedom of no cage or do I put a cage in it so I'm \"legal\"

I think power adders are a great way to make power. I just proudly own a 9.5:1 c/r naturally aspirated car that runs on 94 octane (91 octane with no pinging) all steel, glass \"TRUE STREET CAR\" I dont recall alot of cars like mine even in california that can say that. Goes to show we are fortunate to have kroc in our own back yard and Airspeed as a supporter of our old Vdubs.   Anyone with 11:1 and higher will easily hit 12's and 11's especially if they have lexan and fiberglass.

Everytime I see an ultra clean green 65 with a turbo its \"JIMS(DVKK)\" old car. Out of the box it was a 10 second car.  Geez that guy that bought \"JIMS(DVKK)\" 65 BEETLE with a TURBO must be having a blast!!! Man did \"JIM\" do a spectacular job in doing ALL THE LEGWORK.  \"JIM\" sure has the skills. That guy that bought \"JIMS(DVKK) 65 BEETLE with a TURBO\" must appreciate \"JIMS(DVKK)\" hard efforts in putting a beautiful 65 BEETLE with a TURBO in the 10's.  That car was beautiful when it was featured in the magazine.  \"JIM\" got all the credit for building such a show piece. Man if I owned that beautiful 10 second car I'd get a paintjob so that its not labeled as \"JIM(DVKK)\" 65 beetle anymore. \"JIM(DVKK)\" put a cage in that 65 beetle because he knew it'd be in the 10's. The power adder can compensate easily for the additional weight. Thank goodness \"JIM(DVKK)\" put that cage in his old 65 BEETLE with a TURBO or the guy that bought \"JIM's(DVKK)\" old car woulda thought \"10.86 is way too fast for me... I better de-tune my car!!  :P  :P     \" Who's the new owner of the former 10 second DVKK car???????????

OOPS I'm off topic I think this post was regarding DVKK 100mph sticker. Sorry.

Man if this sorta thing/snubbing  happended on the clf or shoptalk or even the samba forum serious hardcore enthusiast would  suspect the club that has 2 checkered flags as their \"emblem\" to be \"INTERESTING\" to say the least. Is this what reputable clubs do?? snub like little boys and girls. Little snubbing yes but within reason.

I'm proud to put a DVKK 100mph sticker on my car regarldess if it was done with a 14 second ET or 11 second ET.

lets carry on with the original post.

Timeslips with that sorta MPH and that slower ET is more than likely an error on the timing equipment. I'd say replicate that same timeslip then its feasible to proudly own a DVKK 100mph sticker. Those numbers just dont jive.

How's this for a theory....

Light is about to turn green.  I dump the clutch, the car breaks the beam to give me a reaction time and start the clock.  Because the clutch was dumped between 4000-5000 rpm, the car moves slightly as the wheels break free, spin for a second or two (which gets added to my ET) then gain traction and BAM!  111 mph pass!

It could have happended this way, no?  I don't understand how they could have the time right (which is consistant with what I've been running) but the MPH be so out to lunch.  If something interferred with the lights at the end of the track to generate 111 mph, then my time wouldn't jive either.
