Flicking gas gauge needle
« on: May 23, 2016, 09:50:13 AM »
Hey folks
I have a 66 bus. Gas gauge needle flickers (there is gas). Any thoughts on the cause - I was thinking this is more electrical than mechanical.
Suggestions welcome :-)

Assuming you've already confirmed the gauge is well grounded in the dash wild needle is usually caused by dirty contacts in the sender, is it an original VDO unit or a recent replacement?
If you do end up pulling the tank to deal with it don't buy a new one thinking it'll solve all your problems, if it even works out of the box odds are good it'll fail in a few months. Here's how to fix your OG one (read the whole thread, it also discusses the shitty repros): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611056
