Title: Can't post pictures
Post by: getgeoff on January 11, 2019, 01:40:18 PM
I had started some topics here before but over time I have been frustrated by the fact that I can't post pictures on this site like I used to. So I recently got a new Apple iPhone and thought now that the pictures I take would now upload but still no joy. What I'm I doing wrong around here

pic test with old pos acer laptop...

pic test directly from my old pos iPhone 5 didn't work, I got a message saying file was too big or took too long to upload, contact the site admin...

So...I emailed myself that same pic, sending it resized to 296kb, then re-saved it for my email to my phone and I'll try to post it here now...

so...from my end here it looks like pic sizing has a lot to do with it.

the pic from the acer laptop is 450kb and it posted fine. i dont know the size of the original pic from my iphone 5 because i cant seem to find that info, but i was unable to post it in its original size. however, after i emailed it to myself from my phone, resizing it to 296kb in that email, and then re-saving it back to my iphone as the new 296kb size, i was able to post it from my phone. zoiks!

for what its worth, i have heard from others that posting pics directly to the asf is troublesome, especially from iphones.

my $.02...i always prefer to host my vw pics on thesamba.com and then i can post them from there to any site i like. its a little extra work, but it's well worth it imho because then we're not dealing with dead pic links (like from photobucket, flickr, here or other hosting sites). i've been doing it that way for many years and i've never had a problem with hosting or posting pics!

geoff..do you get an error message when you try to post pics? maybe you need a pic resizing app for your new phone? maybe the admins can offer more info?

Thanks Silas, I am getting the same error message you mentioned in your second post saying file is too big or took to long to upload. I will try the posting on samba first and see if that works. Such a pain.

Good Luck

ps: you'll have to create an acct there, but as you can see, its a good way tp post and you can store pics for later use

I’ve also experienced a lot of frustration with trying to post pics. Too many steps required. This site uses the same format as the old Vancouver Kayak Club site and posting pics was soooo much easier!
Gave up. Easier to just text or email pics to potential buyers.

It really comes down to the fact that this is a free site for everyone except for the odd person who chips money in.

You can use image links to post photos or shrink your pictures to meet the size requirements.

I used to have trouble but now I always make my photos smaller (1280 x 853 pixel or something close to that) before uploading them into the post.     When adding a post it shows a warning that the maximum size for photos I believe is 2500k (2.5Meg) and any recent smart phone photos are wayyyyy bigger than that.   You need to use a converter or editor or software that lets you shrink the size of your photo before trying to import it to your post.  It works for me every single time.

Just make it smaller............kinda like I made my cutting wheel smaller.....

As Chris clearly stated, The site only allows pics to be posted that meet size requirements. No matter how many times you try to place an extra large square in a small circle it just wont work. If you post within the required setting you should have no problem. posting the img link from another host is still the easiest way.

Being a iPhone user I can tell you they stink for file creation,
Taking a picture and trying to save it into other formats , forget it to much hassle.
This is one of the main reasons I stopped posting photos ect years ago to much hassle
Trying to format and transfer images to my site and pc.
My old bberry was a snap , save anything as any type of file as well as save photos in any format
And size as wanted and transfer with ease .
Sorry my 2 cents .
Something I have just done is start using my old z10 for house phone controlling all music and
Have tested again taking photos auto saving to determined size and format.
I know this doesn’t help on this site ,but gave up on iPhone for doing photo upload from
Additional options.

I Love my Blackberry Key2!   And changing a photo size on it could not be simpler.   Just bring it up on the same photo app you took it with (or right after you take the photo) and go into editing mode (one touch) and click on the little "shrinker" icon in the bottom left and simply choose the size you want to save it as.   Could not be simpler.   And post photos to Airspeed Community Forums all day long easy as pie.   I'm sure other phones have their way or possibly even the same way for all I know.  I just know this is how its done on my phone.   No methanol required.

Maybe you two should give each other your BBM IDs since you're the last ones left!

There it is.   I was just waiting for it.   The jealousy of our almighty Blackberries.    Physical keyboards rule, baby!

While you're at it, maybe you can share your BBM ID with me so I can put it in my BB Classic.
