red light on dash
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:02:39 PM »
hello!
the red light on my dash is on all the time. when it's still cold, if I rev the engine it goes out but immediately comes back on once the revs drop again. it's running fine and starting great (knock on wood).
I've got the 68 beetle, 1500cc, converted from gen to alternator (could this be the problem?).
any suggestions?
please be patient, I'm naturally blonde.

How old is the alternator? Is it internally regulated or a Motorola/Bosch 3 wire unit?

Shure the red light is the alternator? as in what light comes on when you remove the wire from the oil pressure sender and ground it with the key on?

Check your belt , make sure it's a Alternator belt not a Generator belt.
