Crank Shaft End Play.
« on: September 04, 2003, 03:51:32 PM »
Okies, been humming and hawing about my crank shaft end play, the two specs I have seen are .005 \" and .00275\"

Considering I went with a brand spanking new forged Crank on this beastie lil Bug engine what side of that range should I gun fer?   ....  or should I go even a lil smaller?

Had the Crank lightened flywheel and all the rods/pistons balanced together.....  got a \"sand-seal\" front crank pully from bug pack now as well..

Thanks fer the input...

The target you want to shoot for is .0035\"

Most books list .004 - .006\" as spec.  Much under .003\" and you run the risk of \"grabbing the bearing\", aka seizing.  Mine was just a hair over .003 after torquing to 325 ft lbs, and I can live with that.  It will probably pound in a little bigger anyway.
