Engine turns over but doesn't fire up
« on: October 09, 2014, 02:14:29 PM »
I have a 68 bug with the 1500cc
I have rebuilt the carb, new fuel pump, new plugs and wires, new coil and it's getting spark but just won't fire up unless I hit the carb with carb cleaner but then it dies right after that. Would anybody have any suggestions on what else I could try? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Assuming you put gas in the tank are you sure the inlet and outlet lines on the fuel pump are correct?, newer pumps are in on the top and out on the bottom.

Then try putting your hand on the throat of the carb while someone cranks, it'll feel weird but it won't suck your hand off or injure you, sometimes that unsticks things that are plugged from sitting.

Double check your spark plug wire firing order. Make sure each wire is going to the correct plug.
