Picking a power plant concept
« on: September 28, 2014, 08:10:00 AM »
I'm tossing around several ideas on what to do still quite indecisive.
Options so far
- 3.0l t4 motor n/a
- 2332cc t1 motor n/a
- Subaru conversion 2.5 turbo

Going in a 75 standard IRS beetle with a 915/61 conversion.

Will be a daily driver, but used for the odd Hillclimb event. Here in CH.

Any other suggestions out there?
I'd like to see at least 200bhp on the wheels.
And pros and cons to the options I've listed so far. Thanks for any suggestions or tips.

Cheers René

I can comment on option two, the 2332 cc Type 1:

I've really enjoyed my self-built 2332 and have had a lot of fun racing Street Legals most Friday nights. The Beetle is also a nice city cruiser, but a bit noisy if driven for more than an hour.(Subaru might be quieter). I'm currently running 10:1 CR which requires premium 91/94 octane and I have 204 HP to the wheels. The only thing to keep an eye on...is the valve springs, if you race a lot at high rpm's.

Neil thanks,

Noisy :-) I grew up in the caribou where every second truck has straight pipes:-) I used to have a MK1 rabbit with dual glass packs nothing else dang noisy lol.  But thanks for the up and up on the 2332cc sounds like a solid option to go for 204hp that's Bhp or flywheel tested? That's right around what I'm looking for. Thanks I'll keep that option open.

Cheers Rene

It was tested on the Dynojet chassis dyno to the rear wheels at Concept 1.  204 BHP would probably be around 225 at the flywheel, depending on what drivetrain formula is used:
