Hi, on my '74 ghia, I have two guages, one is my speedo, and the other is a quartz clock with my gas guage. The gas guage works great, the clock seems to be dead. Does anyone know if they can be repaired, or do you have to just buy a new one? Any advice? Thanks, xcasper.

What a great opportunity to do a tachometer swap. What some guys do is take the dead clock apart and gut it. Then take a similar sized tach and transfer the guts into the clock. A real savvy 'puter guy can then design and print out a new face that has the same style as the speedo. See Geoff's Hemroid to understand what I am talking about.

The clock is usually dead because the fusible solder joint inside has let go due to reverse polarity. Usually an easy repair for someone who knows instruments.

As for rescreening the face there's a guy in Langley who's name I can't find right now who does that stuff. I'll keep looking.

Not interchangable. 73-74 is the same size as the speedo and has an integral fuel gauge.
