Texas Yellow 1303 yesterday on the perimeter hwy between Ladner and Delta.

Later in New West I saw a VW Type 183 parked on a side street.  Anyone know what that is?

Hebmuller-type Beetle recreation half an hour ago parked in front of M&M meat shop on McMillan in East Abbotsford. Distinctive 2 seat cabriolet in red/burgundy with a mix of parts of different years. Very surprised to see a local VW I'd never seen before. Anyone know the owner?

Sunday April 9 on ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay.   We were trailering our just-bought 1975 Westfalia from Gabriola Island to Langley and as we pulled into the lineup for the 5pm ferry to Horseshoe Bay, we saw this 1972 lowered Bay in the lineup so of course we went over to say hi.  Well the gentleman had just bought it that very day in Nanaimo and was taking it home to Vancouver.   Yes, the paint job was apparently on purpose and had a clearcoat over top.  It looked cool.  Super nice storage rack on top.   Even had nice pin-striping in the front and partially along sides.   It was well-looked after.  Sunroof added in front and a roof vent near the back.   Engine looked nice and clean and correct.   The new owner could not have been happier with his new baby!   He apparently had one long ago when he was in his teens and is now one again with the VW bus world.

That's not a 72. Wrong tailights.

You got another bus? How many does that make?

Heyyy.........you are correct.  It must have been a 1971.    The tail lights went to the longer version in 1972.   I shoulda known that.   I thought he said 1972 but that could just be my poor memory.

But sadly (for me) the 1975 bus we picked up on Gabriola Island (for sure it was a 1975 cuz I checked the VIN number) was for my girlfriends 22 year old son and not for me.   He and a couple of his friends like buses and one of his friends has had a mid 1970's era bus (which he then sold) and now has a 1980's bus (which they drove to Alaska and back last summer with a live chicken.....I shit you not).   So now my girlfriends son has one of his own.   Good thing he's a mechanic (apprentice) cuz it's sure going to keep him busy getting it fixed up (hence why we had it on a trailer).

Westy69, yes, I partially heard the other side of your story.   He did pay $3500 which just about had me crying in the parking lot as that has got to be the deal of the year (or better) for a bus in great condition (assuming you like the paint job).   I could not believe it.   I didn't even want to show him our bus on the trailer after hearing that.  : )   He did say he had to zoom over there cuz some other guy was on his way or something like that although he thought the other person was on the next ferry behind him (or maybe that was the 3rd person on their way there).   Crazy.

I was there in Nanaimo at 8am that morning as we got up super-early and took the 6:30am ferry that morning with an empty trailer but was not checking emails or craigslist directly all that day.  Oh well.   On the other hand, the guy was super nice, very friendly and very, very happy with his bus.

Westy69, the bus was more green than blue.   It looked better in the pictures than in real life with a lot of rust and door issues but the engine runs good and tranny is good so that's enough for us!   One thing though is that even though it's a 1975, it has a single progressive carburetor with that rectangular air filter on top, very much like what CIP1 (and others) sell.   But it did start easy and run well and managed to drive up the ramps onto the trailer easily.   I'm assuming that someone didn't like the FI setup or was having problems and did the swap to a carburetor.   Not as good I suppose as dual carburetors but it will be good enough, I think.   The main floor (in front of the cabinets) has a huge 2' x 3' rusted out hole where the metal floor used to be.  The bottom of the sliding door is mostly rusted away.  Bizarrely though the sliding door bottom track is really good shape and the rocker panel below it is in great shape.   Lots of other rust and various previous attempts to fix with either bodyfiller or fibreglass but that's ok.   Bodywork is just bodywork and we can tackle all that.  He (my girlfriends son) is plenty pumped up at getting started on it.

Spotted back in mid May pulling into the Dollar Store in Surrey Center and noticed that it was a right hand drive. I talked to the owner about it. Said she brought it along when she moved here from Europe. Didn't feel too comfortable driving the left hand seat.
