2.0L type4 engine value?
« on: February 24, 2014, 04:00:08 PM »
I've checked the Samba, but I was wondering what the local-market value is for a complete documented rough-running 2.0L type 4 engine. There is a guy looking on Craigslist, and I have one to spare.
Compression is 130, 110, 120, 90
But according to a The Bug Shop receipt "sounds like cam gear rivets have come loose"
I also have the aircare reports.
Not sure if the guy wants the injection, exhast, alternator, distributor, tin etc.
Could you give me an idea of a longblock, and "complete" value?
Back in the day AVR charged me $500 for a 2.0 L core to build my 2055 (as they had no need for my 1.7), but cores don't seem to be worth that much on the market.
Any help? Thanks.

I'd say a rebuild able core is $300-500 since there's not many around and everyone wants a 2.0 rather than 1.7-1.8

Not everybody, some recognise that the shorter stroke plays well with an early transmission and the heads are bullet proof ;)

I do agree on the pricing though, ~$500 for a good one and closer to $300 for one making funny noises with low compression.

Agreed on smaller t4's, they have their place but I was meaning 2.0 are in demand for those looking to build a perf engine for beetle, bus and off road.
