15" wheels on a westy
« on: May 13, 2012, 08:19:31 PM »
I'm thinking about buying some 15" Fuchs style rims but I' m a little concerned about load ratings.
Is anyone running an acceptable tire on their after market rims?
Also I'm running stock suspension so I don't want it to look funny in the wheel wells,I see some guys running 17"
Any suggestions pointers or pictures appreciated!

I know these aren't 15's but I did run 14's on my bus. That way you can get the Fuchs look but run the bus HD tires.

I can sell you some 17" cup rims with tires, 205/40/17's on the front and 215/45/17's on the back for $500. I ran them with adapters on an early Bay that was lowered and they fitted in the arches just fine. They are pretty close to stock dia so will work for a stock bus too. I have two adapters for them two.

Sorry for the hijack.

There's no need to consider an aftermarket 14" Fuchs for two reasons.  First, none exist.  Second, they are the most worthless of all Fuchs.  The P guys don't want them, so they are usually cheaper than what an aftermarket wheel would cost you.
14" Fuchs almost appear to be designed for Bay window Type 2s.  When you bolt the wheel adapters on with them, the wheel is in exactly the same place as the stock wheel.
Don't worry about load ratings, they forged, not cast.  They are way stronger than any aftermarket cast wheel.

Nice! Blue bus.

Bruce ,
I was more concerned with finding a 15 or 17" tire with the proper load ratings,if I go up in rim size.

I run 14"Continental Vanco 2's on my 79.  They are available in several 15" sizes and have the proper load rating for the bus. Available locally, even at Cdn Tire.

Anybody have a set or know of someone interested in selling some 14" Fuchs.
Ideally I would like to run with a proper load rated tire.
Thx!

Try Pelican Parts forums, I see them on there quite a bit.

Just an update.
I went with Pittwagen's suggestion and bought the Continental Vanco 2's which made a huge improvement.
Now I'm going to get the alignment done ,but none of the shops I've gone to in Kelowna seem to want to do it as they don't have the settings.
Anyone know what they are for a 74" Westfalia ?

Any shop should be able to get the specs online - if they actually want to do the job!  The Bentley only seems to have the front alignment specs.  I'll pm you the specs from the manual.
