Need help with rocker setup
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:23:45 AM »
Hey Guys,

I'm running SF heads on my drag car this year. just in the pre-assembly phase here.

Got the heads back from being flycut .080 so I'm down to 48cc . So I go ahead an pull all the valves and install some checker springs in cyl 1 and notice my installed height is 1.800" . looking at my autocraft 1.4's I'm thinking this is not going to work. I need approx .300" shims under the rockers to even clear the valve retainers, let alone line up with the valve tips.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know if the new style pauter rollers will set up properly with the longer valves????

You are running longer valves.
What cam? Lift at cam? What springs?
I'm wondering  if you really need the longer valves at all. You may be able to use stock length valves, and these rocker problems go away.    ( Edited for spelling.)

It's an insane world out there... and I'm proud to be part of it!

hey Cam, I ended up with shim stack of .260" to get my rocker geometry setup. and I'm really happy with where it is?  Do I need longer valves? Probably not but thats how this set of used heads came.....
