I have a 78 van has no keys so i took in the ignition to have a key made. the shop looked up the numbers on the net cut a key it did not work. they took the lock apart filed the key to fit workes now,
but when i tried it in the door it didnot work. Is the door key different than ignition

Back when it was new one key fit everything but the ignition barrel wears more that the doors and gets replaced, most of the time whoever replaces it doesn't recode the ignition to match the doors and you end up with 2 or more keys. You'll have to pull a door handle or the hatch kock and get a key cut for it (hatch lock is fairly easy). If you want it to be single key have the ignition reworked to match the doors.
