Scruffy's pan gets a make over..
« on: May 14, 2016, 07:26:56 PM »
Well here is the original pan from my 1955 beetle. I am about to start cleaning and seeing if it turns out just as good as spending about 350.00 bucks for sandblasting. There is a great guy in the hood for blasting but he is so busy and I want to get going. I got lots of scotchbrite.

Well I ended up dropping off the pan for blasting today. Chris is such a busy guy but he was able to fit me in. It will be getting done while I'm away in Sacro for the bugorama with the Okanagan boys.

I think you will be happier after blasting,
I have done ton's of parts people bring be where they spend hours wire wheeling, scotchbrite, and grinding and it's never as clean as sandblasting.

keep us updated
looks like a fun project

the rust is in the bottom of the pits of the metal ,places where scotchbrite and wire wheels cant get. if you just knock off the top layer the rust is still alive and well, under your new top coat! blasting is still the most cost and time effective method out there. imho

Pan back from blaster and waiting for touch ups. Few spots that require a bit of pounding... Some light tapping to make it flat and smooth. Sitting on top of pan is my new RLR chromoly bolt in roll bar.

What paint did you use?

How did you apply it?

It looks good!

I used a product called rust bullet. 2 coats of a silver primer followed by 2 coats of the black top coat. You apply with a brush.
