The vin is 1-0787 788...

built early january 1955 = 1955 model!

cool! I wonder how close your vin is to josh's vin?

Mine is -1- 0822904 which I think translates into the last day or 2 of January 55?

That looks like a super solid car man, look forward to seeing it I hope!

Thanks Josh, I can't believe how much work and time you have put into your 55 rag.  It looks great but I feel that if I did all that work I would be pissed if something were to happen to my paint job after its done. I feel that going patina right now is a lot less stressful.

The car was located in Vernon, BC when I bought it but had come from Winnipeg. It must of been some where in a small town that didnt salt the roads or maybe they didnt drive it in the winter cause it wouldnt start...lol It doesnt have a gas heater so I dont know how anyone could drive a car like that in the brutal praries.

Little late to the paint removal part of the build but just in case.....  When I was removing the paint off my 15 I used a product called "goof off".  It's a graffiti remover and worked really well for the more delicate areas.  Comes in an aerosol can.  You'll also get different results in working times with easy off depending on the temperature.  I had the best working time when the weather was cold.  Slowed the process down considerably.

This car is virtually identical to my first vw.  55 deluxe with semaphores.  Bought it in Feb. 1968 at Westminster VW on Columbia St. $600.  No gas heater but you got gassed when the heat was on !!  Had nothing but motorcycles up to that point so driving around in the dry when it was raining was great even if the heater did stink a bit.

Well it's starting to snow but I still keep going. I have portable heat but since I have so much work to do, if I were to wait until every condition were completed you end up not getting things done.

Pan is degreased and waiting for sandblasting or bit of repair first.  Those pile of fenders and door is what I need to start stripping the paint a on flat surface. Pulling the pan apart and cleaning was a crappy job but needed to be done. No such thing as a bad job to do on something we really enjoy working on.
