engine stud broken
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:24:01 PM »
Absolutely a stupid question....

Can I run my car with only 3 engine bolts on it.   The bottom stud has been broken off.  I bought the engine used and have put it in. I did not notice it til it was in.  Pulled it and it seemed to have been tapped.  I got a bolt dropped the motor again but could not get the bolt around the tranny bolt to get it in.   I could pull it again and drag it down to a machinest shop to get a stud put on.  Seems like a lot of work from this point.  Anyone run the motor with 3 bolts only?

Three bolts / studs will be fine, unless you're running stupid amounts of horsepower. Put in a heli-coil next time you have the engine out.

It's an insane world out there... and I'm proud to be part of it!

Thanks for making me feel a little safer.  I am going to try to put something in there but at least it is running.  These things really are amazing.  Everything is so simple.  4 bolts holding the whole motor on wow.
Appreciate the help.
