Trans guru needed

Have a chance to get an old trans for a decent price too, do these gears sound like a good stack?
3.58, 2.06, 1.48, and1.04. Guy claims it has a klingenberg 4.37 ring and pinion.

I have no understanding these numbers, is this a close box or more an open street gearing?

Whatchas think?

Depends on your rear tire size.  With most tires on VWs, this is an in-town only gearbox.  If you go out on the freeway, stay in the right lane because you won't be going faster than about 90km/h.

Here's some numbers for you.  Using my handy Gear and Speed Calculator and the info you provided and with stock height tires (25.3") I got the following:

For my stock trans 73 bugs with 3.88 axle ratios and .93 4th gears my 100km/h was 2991.3 rpm.  90 was 2393.  Very comfortable for good highway cruising and reasonable engine temps.

Your proposed trans would yield 3776.7 at 100 and 3021.3 at 90.  Great if you live in Maple Ridge and want to make a few evening runs at Mission and drive back and forth.

So what you are saying is it would be really good if your back wheels looked like this?

So I got this trans and it has a rhino case, not a huge fan of the looks, I understand they are stronger and everything but I would prefer a stock case, would this be a direct swap over or would I need to align internals and set settings again?
