009 On A Stock 2.0?
« on: January 22, 2004, 07:38:46 PM »
What are peoples opinions on adding a 009 with pertronix to an otherwise stock 2.0 FI Bus engine. I'm not having any probs with the current vacuum advance setup, but i have another dist. and am interested in using it, if its not going to cause any problems with heat, timing, ect...

Also, what would be the proper timing for this modification?

Not to sure if any benifits are there - if it's not broke don't fix it :) IMO

Keep your dissy,  take out the 1 firmer advance spring and put in a softer one from another distributor.  Your total advance will happen sooner.

Effect will be that more advance will happen quicker until full advance.  Your motor will feel much stronger under 3000 rpm.

If you  can find some after market springs in a spring kit that are softer to make full advance come in by 2500-3000 rpm you will feel a big differrence.

I know I had a T4 2.0 with a mallory fully adjustable dizzy and full advance was in by 2500 rpm.  Very crisp on the throttle. :D

You may be able to bend the tabs on the centrifigal advance to limit max advance to 16 degrees.  Set timing at 12 degrees at idle and 28 full advance with no vacuum hooked up.  A 2.0 makes the best power with 28 max advance with no vacum hook up.  Then the vacuum will take it to 37 degrees under part throttle on the freeway for good fuel economy.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I will try to find another spring this wkend, and play around a bit.

Would the timing be set the same if i was to use the 009 in the meantime?
