painting vs powerdercoating?

Trying to decide which way to go on my engine tin... painted or powdercoating. I know the powdercoat would likely be cleaner looking, although I've read if not done right it cracks when doing up bolts through holes. As I'm going stock on this tin, it's supposed to be a black semi-gloss, can you get that sheen with the powdercoat process?

i believe you can get it glossy , and it is more durable.

Powdercoat for sure! Definitely far more durable then paint. Semi-gloss should be no problem, your powdercoating place will have sample chips to show you what it will look like. Anyone who's had cracking around the bolt holes hasn't had their coating done correctly, when cured correctly it's semi-flexible just like a paint job.

Go with powder coating! This was done about 4 years ago.

Powdercoating done properly is the best way to go.  The reason for the cracking is becasue the tin wasn't hot enough when they cured it.  Be sure to get the tin sandblasted which will give wicked adhesion.   All colours are available gloss black, semigloss black etc.  Semi gloss won't show as many imperfections in the metal.  My brother has a powdercoating shop in Mission. It's Westcoast Metal Finishers and they also do sandblasting. (sorry for the shameless plug).
