WTB: pair of heat exchangers for 1700 type 2 motor
« on: August 26, 2014, 08:58:15 AM »
Looking for a pair of heat exchangers for my 72 westy motor. Ed at the bug shop was going to check, but not heard back so thought to try a general call out.

Well the guy said they need some work.  How are your 24ga brazing skills? I see gaps between the exhaust pipe and tin.  Pretty much a given when playing with 40 year old exchangers. Oh and see how oily inside they are as well, particularly the left one.

Might be worth a shot if the insides are clean and the tin around the pipes is not too far gone.  Ask for more pics.

New ones (Dansk)  supposedly do not provide as much heat but I've never seen any objective tests. Lots of bs on the Samba because someone said so way back!

I have a set you can have for free, but they also have the seperation of the "tin" from the pipes. They are not oily though. They have been sand blasted (half decently) and painted with VHT, but since the paint hasn't been heat-set, it is rubbing off a bit.
