Handbrake
« on: November 18, 2005, 09:07:27 AM »
On the freeway today, going along fine and then for five miles or so, something's not right pulled over on the hard shoulder smoke pouring from around the rear tyre, handbrakes not working, smell of burning rubber, the handbrake has been pulling up as far as it will go for the last couple of days, did'nt really click that there was anything wrong until today.
My guess is the handbrake cable has been overtightned, but anybody got any theries as to the smoke, brakes binding perhaps????. Havent driven it since we brokedown as we came home on the towtruck    Anyone any ideas????

Sounds like brakes binding. With all the moisture, and it sitting outside (even with the car cover) and the hand brake on.

Ole Butterball had that problem...., I was told not to put the handbrake on so tight ( maybe block the wheels)

I think your right with the brakes binding, i think it's going to need a new handbrake cable, as it's not working at all now, or maybe just adjusting, and with that ammount of smoke and smell of burning I woukd guess I'm going to have to replace those brakeshoes????
