how can you tell the diffrence between type1and type 2early stock wheel, i have to different sets one is vw 04/52 solid smoothys,bug or bus ? other rims no vw stamp part #stamp bairly visible possibly #2055331 stamped in rim these are both 16\"rims have pics

B) These are probbibly 15\" rims not 16\" where are you measuring. the total rim diameter from rim edge to rim edge this is not the true rim measurement. rims are measured from bead seat,  if memory servs type 1 & type 2 stock never came with a 16\" rim only steel 15\" from factory.Do you have a better description of these wheels. are they aluminum , width , what is the real diameter of these rims. design/style with this maybe some one can help you.

Your memory doesn't serve you well.  Beetles made before Oct 1952 all had 16\" wheels.
