Question 1957 Bug
« on: November 04, 2010, 01:41:20 PM »
Did they make a large window in 1957 Beetle? I know very little about the year's when they went from oval to large window. If interested there is one 4 sale complete and running in a field by my barn for 4,200.

'58 Model year is the start of the larger rear window. If the seller has pulled the year from the build date, however, it could show a '57 year.

Sounds like Vinent Devries beetle...kind of a steel blue color? Actually runs beautiful, and all the brakes etc..were done on the car (I helped him order all the parts ;))

Why yes Chris it is steel blue? Over the year's there have been V.W's on the property. On 240th in Ft.Langley.The price might be a tad high for the condition the body is in. The deck lid doesn't open for the bumper is bent. Therefore I couldn't peek in and see the engine....  Having said that I love the color and the interior.....

I had a '57 bug that belonged to my wifes grandmother. Bought at Pacific VW.
It had the then cool big window. She owned it for 20 odd years and it was never out of 2nd.
I sold it to a friend of my wife and she died and the car was sold onwards by her husband.
It was the gold colour. I remember grandma driving to Bellingham and she said it went great in second!!
Of cource the freeway was not in yet.

Sister in law had a 57 with a big rear window back in the late 60's.  Someone didn't like the oval window and grafted in the later one.  We weren't thinking too much about future value back then.

Car had a Hupp gas heater that always belched black and the odd yellow flame that lit up the wheel well.  Could be quite spectacular at night.  She was too cheap to get a new glow plug and get it serviced.  Car is long gone.  She is still cheap!!

I suggested he list it as a 58 "model year" as I figured people would be weirded out by the big window. It is registered as a 57. I think it is a decent car for the money. Vincent did a fair bit of work to get it road worthy and it is air-cared and ready to go.

it looks like a car that was for sale in vancouver 2-3 years ago for 2k. The owners were also listing it as a 57 as it was registered as a 57.

It must have been built Aug/Sept 1957. But it does have the one year only colour for 1958, which is L334 Glacier Blue Metallic. It is the same colour as mine, a really cool looking colour (in my opinion).
