Central Alberta Raceways
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:55:26 PM »
Thought I would post about a new drag strip that just opened up last year in Rimbey, Alberta.  It's called Central Alberta Raceway and it's an NHRA-affiliated track that includes an oval, MX, mud bog and a drag strip.

I raced there last weekend and found it to be a well-run track...volunteers officiating, much like Medicine Hat.  It's currently a 1/8th-mile drag strip, but plans are to expand to the 1/4-mile in the future as fund-raising permits.  The track is concrete, so there are no ruts to be concerned with, and the shutdown area is asphalt.  The pits are gravel, however, they've sprayed the return road with calcium to eliminate dust issues.

I know this is a bit far for most of the BC racers, but maybe those like Kevin in Sicamous might consider it.  They usually do a Saturday and Sunday event, and there's a Sportman bracket for those running in the 8-second range, like me.

I was solo, but here's a photo that I found while googling:
