I have, but not on a VW tank.

What problem are you trying to solve? Flaking paint and surface scale inside...pretty good option. Heavy rust, not so much.  I like to remove the scale/rust that's in the tank with a length of chain and some cleaning solution before using the marine clean.

It's a rusty build up in the tank I'm trying to clean up.

Check out leakers in Aldergrove. http://www.leakersgastanks.com/home.html We have used them lots here at the shop. He used to be in Langley and now works out of his house in Aldergrove and is semi-retired. He just did a pair of Mini Coopper S tanks for us at the end of last year. They were pretty bad and they turned out like new.

I used Leakers in Aldergrove on a tank.  Tank was rusted badly and even had a few rust through areas.  Did an excellent job.

If memory serves my tank cost about $275.00 to get it fixed.

I went to Ukranian tire and bought 2 liters of Evaporust.  Put it in the tank, shook it around, let it sit overnight, moved it around etc.  Emptied it out.  TA DA!

Like new tank for $20.

i need to do this to my tank aswell, what did you re-seal it with after? i was told to use "SuperClean", it cleaned my tank out good, but there is still small amounts of rusty spots here and there.....

I am not 100% positive, but VW didn't 'seal' or treat their tanks at all.  Once the rust is cleaned up, and the tank is clean, I plan to put a few extra filters and run it.  Then just change the filters and it should be good to go.

I just ran a bike chain and some gas around in mine a couple times and put a filter right off the tank. Probably asking for trouble though.

Oh, the fuel tap has a small (clean) filter as well.  I ran it 'clean' 4-5 times so that should be more than good enough.  If the idle suddenly dies on the engine, then I know to pull the carb and clean it :)
