Vw Fender Badge
« on: January 26, 2008, 10:53:22 PM »
I recently picked up a proper passenger side fender for my 1958 bug. Upon closer inspection I noticed two holes, then I saw the outline of a VW badge.  I believe this was only done in Canada, with the badges being made in Winnepeg. I would like to keep it. But were these badges only on Oval's? Is it correct for a 58 bug?

Absolutely!
Most of the original badges I have seen on unrestored cars were on 58s or 59s.

Awesome!! I really like those badges.

Why are there none for sale on the Samba? Are they that rare? What's the going price?

I have received a request to make a template. I've a got bunch of thin tin that I could use to make templates, using the snowflake holes to secure it. Anyone, think of a better way? PM me if you want one. Just give me a couple of weeks.

This is a Canada only item.  The 'mericans don't know about them!
I scored an NOS one on eBay for about $65 last year.  Maybe Jason has one for sale.

If you make the template so it references off the edge of the fender beading, it could be used on all fenders, even those with the wrong hole locations.  Reference it so it includes the corner by the top of the apron.

does anyone have the measurements of where the badge was exactly supposed to go? I expect higher up on newer cars with the change in tail light size...

I don't think every car had them in the same place. I was once told that the mechanics made their own templates back in the day so there would likely be variances with placement.
I should have made a template off the one on my oval before I welded up the holes. ::)
