Drag racing at the Great Canadian weekend on Friday night.
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:02:20 AM »
Do you have to have seat belts in your car in order to race on the Friday night? My vw beetle is older and never came with them from the factory. So what are the rules to be able to participate.

I was just going to go into the stock motor challenge with my 40 hp engine. Too much rules for a stocker that's 55 years old and it's a challenge just to get it up to speed on the Coquihalla hwy. lol.

imho, it is always best to put safety first, follow all the rules and have a properly maintained machine!

to add to that, my past experience with the SMC and mission raceway has been this...when you tell the person thats doing the tech inspection that you have a bone stock engine and you hope to run a 19 or 20 second pass, they won't open your decklid to looks for fuel filters and they won't pull up your back seat to see the battery hold down. they really dont pay much attention to the car (unless it has an open cockpit or stands out in some other way, like having cracked glass or parts falling off, ect) and usually just wave you through...they've got other cars to deal with that are more difficult to tech.

so geoff...it sounds like you would be ok if you had seat belts. if there is any way you can make that happen (an understandably significant hurdle at this stage of the game, but could be possible ;)), you know we'd love to have you participate in the SMC! it's going to be a blast!!
