New member with Dune Buggy project
« on: August 22, 2016, 10:26:44 AM »
Hi all, I just bought a 68 shortened pan Baja Bug project
It needs a full resto and had an rx7 engine and conversion kit in it. Removed that (soon to be for sale) and will be putting a nice aircooled engine in.
Seems like a cool forum here!

Yep, it's the one that was on 240th.
It's going to be a semi full resto, make sure it's solid and functional.
Nearly got the body off
I'm thinking of going with a freah built engine from AVR.

I'm new to VWs so any help and advice would be more than welcomed!

Thanks for letting me know. I knew it was a dune buggy of some sorts (not sure why I put Baja bug in the title) but I have been trying to find out what style shell it was for a few weeks now. I'd love to get side pods for this thing, but am sure they never even made them.
Plans are to put a windshield in as the current windshield is incorporated into the top and get it mechanically sound before I go deciding on stance and wheels

no there were never any side pods specifically made for that body style.  With some body work you could make a different set fit.

were you not planning on using the hard top?

I might use it but I like the open top style more. I will have to get a windshield and frame anyway so I have the ability to run it without top, but could either go the route of having to take the new windshield off to put the hardtop on; or I did think about cutting the windshield in the top off and mating it up to the new windshield.
Either that or make a bikini top to go over the roll bar.
I'm undecided yet, and open to suggestions.
The top is pretty cool though

Here's one of those my buddy Mike built, on a full length chassis, for inspiration!

Thanks for posting those pictures, it does give me a few ideas.
I'm trying to figure out if I like the headlights incorporated into the fenders or not!
