HMMm ......it's a little foggy now . Could it be that part of the window  frame gets screwed onto the body ? (small screws hidden by the rubber?) The first 1/3 of the window stays tight to the body.   Then the rest of  the window will flex or bend from that area when it is opened.   I would have to look at one to remember how it all goes to gether. Can you give me a better idea of what is there ?

Hans is right... Once the stationary quarter window is out you should see 4 holes at the front of the window opening (back of the B pillar) on the pinch weld. You might have to peel back the headliner a bit to find them. The holes for the back hinge should be on the C pillar right behind the window opening. Again, you probably have to peel back the headliner or poke around with a pin to find them.

Hey Thrasher  ,  it's sounds like you may be thinking  beetle style pop outs.  Or square back or notch back style also .  But  fast back pop outs are a unit all thier own.  They have no hinge like set up.  The front 1/3 (aprox 8-10\") of the window is solid mounted in the opening. Then as the window is opened from the back , it is the glass it's self that bends. No hinge! Hope this make sense. Let me know how it is going Mike.

Well....it is a type 3 after all....

3 times harder to work on
3 times harder to find parts for and
3 times the price when you find those parts.....gotta love it!!

Yeah Hans, I figured they were all the same. I'm a type 1 and ex-type 2 owner. I'm slowly figuring out the oddity that is type 3 with Lora's squareback. So do the squareback ones mount like the bug ones? I've got a set in the shed that are supposed to go in Lora's car eventually.

Hey Bill, I just installed the pop outs in Penguins car. They are pretty similar to the beetle. One side gets put in by putting the window on a angle then in the rear where the windows pop out there are 3 screws to hold it in place. Now if I can only figure out where Mike put the rest of the screws!! Good luck.

ok the problem is this, in th seal is a metal insert the whole way around so the seal is rigid in shape and doesn't collapse. on the seal where the pinch weld sits, there are four pins, two on the top of the seal, two on the bottom ot hold the seal in place when the window is opened. What I can't figure out is how to either get the seal in the car first and slide the glass in afterwards, or, install the glass in the seal first and then push the seal into the body.

I've elliminated the first option, cause the glass is too wide at the end that slides into the seal, however putting the glass into the seal first seems to make the seal to wide to get it around the pinch weld.

Maybe there is a third angle I havn't thought of, or maybe i'm just on crack and can't figure it out. ]:(

I found this in the gallery of thesamba and thought it may help. or at least let the non-type 3r's know what fastback glass does.
