My 1970 DC
« on: April 07, 2014, 06:13:44 PM »
Well I finally got it , months of trying to get the time to go all the way up to Powell River and here it is :) the wifey saw how sad I was selling my bus so I got the ohhhh Kay go get it ;))). so now I need body metal , floor pan , corners , dog legs and more . It runs too and has bc registration !!
I have the second DC coming for parts or maybe more , so I will keep posting ;)
Thanxs to all the guys from the interior for getting the Ghia parts for Cerot as I just dropped everything off today ;) making trades for parts he needed for other projects was the only way I could justify doing this , happy campers everywhere.

X2!, not a project for the faint of heart but far from beyond repair, can't wait to see it on the road!

My first  thought was "And it's already camperized!"  ha ha.

All things considered though, it looks pretty intact.  How is the rust on the beams and outriggers and stuff underneath?   One of my buses has...........a lot.   We're talking the bottom edge of some significant beams have lost some integrity along some areas........   There will be some serious welding to shore it all up and replacing outriggers and jack supports...... right after my welding course at KMS tools next month.    From Zero to Expert in three hours.  I cannot wait!  ha ha.

That is a cool-looking bus though.   When you think about how modern pickup trucks are now adding those full second sets of doors in the very recent past couple years, your bus was about 44 years ahead of it's time!

Haha George , is there room at KMS for another newbie to expert welder in 3 hours :D
It's needs help underneath for sure , but surprisingly it's not bad . I saw a welder well metal wizard out in mission do one side of a SC in a few hours time ànd it was solid and exceptionally done well. So yes , the stripping of it down to a shell will start one if these days and get it mounted on the rotisserie and work from the ground up . I need a bus or DC to put my grandson in so this will become the new slammed family wagon ;)

We'll I finally got the second DC home and sadly its been stripped of the lights and needs a lot of work . Some good donor sheet metal , glass , doors . The bed is in pretty good shape so I'm not sure if I should cut it up and part it out or not . Anybody need anything off of it ?

Well the search for frame and body parts for my DC is almost complete :) just got this solid 71 , partnered up with another member who needed the full interior for his first bay so it's going to save 2 early bay windows, it's been tubbed out already in the front , solid frame , body needs a bunch of work , great engine , interior is going to a joint venture . So there will be the Fiberglass pop top available , a new pop top tan canvas still in the box for sale , plus doors etc . Will post in classifieds soon !!
So a 70 DC had a few parts and this 71 will complete the DC metal othere then rear corners , rockers , dog legs and outriggers :) so close and getting excited , any tips of frame repair would be totally helpful ! I was going to use box tubing but if I can repair with OG frame , then that's what I'm doing !!
It's going to be an adventure doing this project DC , biggest resto yet ;)

Don't you already have two DC projects on the go that you just started?   You need to seek professional help, man, and I don't mean the mechanical kind!

Nope just the One DC project and a tin top , coming from the guy with 3 bays on the go .

I'm too far gone for professional help , well that's what my girl says , so I will keep on going as I am ;)

As some Might know by now , the veedubs and parts have been flying out the door as well as my DCs . Sold all 3 of them and part of the proceeds went to buy this beauty , a 70 deluxe bus , it's the last one on my list of early bay busses to own , once I saw it , I had to have it , btw it won't be my last but I had a mission to own every style of early bay , weird I know , but it's a great excuse to tell my wifey why the yard is full of veedubs :)
Here she is , the newest addition to our family , the one that our grandkids can be put in and we can all go for family cruises :)

Thanxs guys , I'm very happy with it , will need some metal work , so Geoff , drivers side rocker , slider rocker , outriggers and jack points , I gots the rest , I think ?

So I'm thinking I should get it tip top mechanically and drive it as is , well jus because and fix the metal in the winter , I'm keeping this family wagon so if I for some reason post it for sale , jus because , unless an emergency comes up , remind me not to be a dumb ass and keep it , seems like I can't keep stuff for to long , which reminds me hahaha , I'm selling 3 bay busses and a bunch of stuff for $2000 just parts and lowered/narrowed beam is worth more then That !!!
