I think I may be turning bay-curios!
« on: May 26, 2013, 08:46:17 PM »
I'm having these strange urges but I don't know what to really look for?  I'm looking at a 72 hi-top is there anything other than the normal rust to look out for (rockers, battery tray, dog legs)?

Look in behind the nose panel down low. There is a reinforcement on the inside for the bumper. Usually rot. Also behind the front tires in the wheel wells. Also the frame in front of the front beam where it Y's off. Outriggers too. And take a good long look at the torsion tubes on the back end.

I am not sure if this is the same 72 high top you are looking at, but it's been on the market for a while.

I have never checked it out, so I can't comment on the rust situation.

Well congratulations!, the pics don't show the bottom edges well but overall it's a pretty sweet looking 72 Adventurewagen, nice!

What kind of shape is this in? I can see visible rust in the pics, but inside looks okay.

It does have a little rust (wheel wells, rockers) but its not rotted. bought it for camping, didn't want somthing I wouldn't drive on dirt roads.  it also leaks a little oil but its nothing that can't be fixed.  at least I'll be camping this summer.
