Avgas or race fuel
«
on:

Hi guys
I recently pickup up an old Ford with a built 302 , 13:1 compression .
Just wondering if or where avgas is available to non pilot / plane owners in the lower mainland , ( I'm in south surrey ) I don't really want to start messing around with the tweaking needed for E85 and I hear race fuel is $$$$ . Or does someone have another suggestion ?
Thanks in advance
Dwayne

I found e85 over Northside Petroleum
http://www.northsidepetroleum.com/e85-ethanol/
I'd give them a try for your needs.
I Hope that helps
Cheers René

Call Langley airport and ask how you can buy fuel (604 534 7330), you used to be able to fill jerry cans but you may need an escort to get you on the field and out to the pumps.

Yes and no, Avgas is indeed formulated to resist vapor pressure at altitude, nobody wants a vapor lock because the fuel has decided to boil in the lines in low atmospheric pressures, but at sea level it's just high octane fuel with less of the cheap fillers that don't play well at altitude. Most higher grade non ethanol auto fuel is comparable if you never plan on driving above 15000 ft. The only exception is if you need the green 100/130 octane. Not many airports pump that these days, it's usually the blue 100LL or nothing and that's no improvement over Chevron 94 or Shell's top end stuff except for the extra "lead sustitute" that's added to the avgas, hope you don't mind cleaning spark plugs because you'll be doing it alot.

Ready this
http://www.fuelexpert.co.za/canirunavgas.php
We used to by the higher octaine stuff at the airport ,had to have wide mouth jerry cans .may of been shell fuel. Recommend doing your math and cut it with 94 .needed to rejet
Better bet was cutting 94 with toluene ,cheep ..if I remember it's like pump octaine 114 so do the math and blend with 94,and toss in some top end lube .
I would make 10 gallons at a time 8 gallons 94 and 2 gallons toluene = 98
